C. Stress Management

A. Preventive Strategies
1. Life Management
a. Time Management

- being mindful and careful of time; discerning有辨识能力的 and prioritizing分秩序的
- work monitoring system
- doing important things before they become urgent

b. Resource activities
- something that rests, refreshes and empowers
- Examples: art, visits/holidays, friends, sports, project, music
(note: these items can be both a source of resource and stress)
- regular and unhurried

c. Empowering Relationships
- establishing the foundation for open sharing (family member, friend)
- make the relationship a comfort zone
- a hiding place in stormy weather
- make it a pride-free zone
- enables the taking-off of masks and pretences

d. Cognitive Restructuring (changing thinking patterns)
i. Develop a holistic整体 view of life
- Not Putting all your eggs in one basket
- taking a step back to see the problem/situation in perspective

ii. Reframing
- Developing a positive outlook to life
- Challenge not a problem
- Opportunity not a burden

2. Physical health
regular exercise
good eating habits
adequate rest
water
posture

3. Mental Preparation for Stressful Periods
Premeditation for high demand periods
- time of rest before and after
- checklist of necessary resources
- explore potential problems that could arise (worst case scenarios)

4. Minimizing Unnecessary Hassles激战
examine your daily routine and identify regular hassles
(For example traffic, garbage problems, laundry system, appliances用具 not working)
See what can be done to avoid them or eliminate them once and for all

B. Responsive Strategies (problem solving skills)

1. STOP: Don’t make things worse
- Impulsive and careless decisions: creating more problems (downward spiral螺旋 of stress)
- Take time out (relaxation techniques)
- Retain the ability to think clearly and make rational decisions (practice)

2. IDENTIFY The source of your stress
- list down stressors
- for each item identify what exactly worries or frustrates you
(By isolating the problem, you prevent yourself from being overwhelmed

3. DISCERN看清楚 between what is
under your control and what is
not under your control

Goal = to develop a strong internal locus of control which is integral in effective problem solving
4. DEAL with Emotions (Strategize)
Popular but unhealthy strategy
= emotional disengagement: supressing feelings, avoiding issues

a. Be aware of your emotions
- why do I feel about this ?
- why am I responding to this?

b. Accept your emotions
- Emotions are a natural human reaction, no guilt necessary
- Don’t hide or ignore them (disengagement is a counterproductive strategy)

c. Catharsis : Release your emotions in a healthy way
- stress = built up physical energy
- Physical activity : sports, running, swimming
Art : drawing, painting, sculpting
Relationships : sharing feelings with someone

I think maysun should translate the english version to chinese version. It is easier for others to read on it.

Btw, the memories in secondary is good, especailly the sports days.
