What's a healthy year of life worth?
Just now while waiting for little fatty and kim shun for dinner, I went to library and read the TIMES magazine. Recently i go to the library and read FORBES, TIMES and NATIONAL Geography quite often...i paid for the RM300 resource fee, so got to fully use in those 'resources'.
I was attracted by an article, "What's a healthy year of life worth?"
According to a study by Stanford & University of Penn researchers, about $129,000. Using medicare records on treatment costs for kidney dialysis as a benchmark, the authors tried to pinpoint the threshold beyond which ensuring another ''quality'' year of life was no longer financially worthwhile.
The study comes a mild debate over whether medicare should start the rationing health care on cost-effectiveness basis,as many other nations do.
So Stanford figure may seems low. Meanswhile it's actually an upward revision. Wow...
No matter how, that shows how important it is to exercise and be happy everyday to stay healthy. :) >> $129,000
